Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose a solid wood floor as supposed to a carpet or laminate?
There are many advantages of having hard wood floors fitted:
- They significantly help asthma sufferers due to the fact that no dust gathers within fibres.
- Very easy to maintain and clean, much more hygienic.
- A good solid wood floor will last a lifetime if maintained correctly.
What are the main points to consider when buying a wooden floor & what am I paying for?
- Length: One of the most important things to consider is the length of the board, many retailers fail to mention in descriptions the length of the boards being supplied. This can be due to them supplying very short lengths, which can give a patch work quilt effect. Our boards range from around 0.8m – 2.5m long.
- Grade: Prices vary depending on the grade of boards. We predominantly stock European Oak Boards. The grade and origin is very important due to the density, colour, quality, length and finish of the timber.
- Width: Boards vary in width, we have an extensive range of products available ranging from around 57mm – 200mm wide.
- Thickness: All our strip flooring/plank flooring is 20mm thick. Engineered boards are 21mm thick and are machined using a 15mm solid board with a 6mm veneer on top. Thickness is very important due to a number of reasons, mainly durability and strength.
Is there a lot of mess or dust during the floor sanding/restoration process?
- The floor sanding/restoration process is 98% dust free.
- The machinery that we use is imported from Germany and is the market leader in our field, so if you are concerned about having work done in newly decorated areas - don’t be.
