Sanding & Restoration Process
We provide an expert floor restoration service that will transform your existing hardwood or soft wood floor. Here is an example of the process that we would use for a sanding/restoration project.
- Flooring is sanded several times working up through 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120 grit papers. ‘Virtually dust free process’.
- From the sawdust collected we mix this with resin, which creates filler the same colour as the timber floor. Filler then spread across the entire area thus filling all boards and any possible imperfections such as small knots.
- Once complete the floor is then sanded with a very fine paper removing the top layer of the filler from the tops of the boards and creating a smooth fine finish – stained to your desired colour.
- Flooring is then coated with a primer, which sinks into the boards, helping to prevent natural ageing and discolouration from sunlight.
- Floor then hand sanded and wiped clean.
- Floor is then lacquered with 2 coats of lacquer.(matt, satin or gloss.)
- First layer of clear lacquer mixed with hardener and then spread onto the floor using rollers and then a brush for detailed areas. Final layer of lacquer then spread as first layer. Drying time approx 2 hours touch dry and 24 hours before actual use. Lacquer is specially designed for sports floors and dance floors, this type of lacquer is ideal as it is scuff resistant and very hard wearing ( Bonakemi Lacquers).
